"Dynamic IT growth should be expected" in ASEAN

Roger Strukhoff, a resident of Silicon Valley and regular visitor to South East Asia, recently reviewed ASEAN and found that its members account for 600 million people and $90 billion in annual ICT expenditures.

"Its combined, rapidly developing economy approaches the size of India's (which has twice the population); adjusted for local cost-of-living, its economy is approaching that of Germany," he wrote in the Cloud Computing Journal.

"Its IT expenditures are on a par with Canada. Yet dynamic IT growth should be expected in this region, which has less legacy IT to contend with than more developed nations, and which must start to pay the software piper as applications and operating environments switch from piratable CDs to the abstracted Cloud."
